After yesterdays absolutely mega session at Point Clear I wanted an easy
laid-back day with this the last day of wind hopefully and having learned
that Michael and Robert were going to Levington I headed over to join them
just as it started to rain! It was miserable at the marina with a light
onshore wind, maybe WSW, the rain stopped so we decided to give it a try
all rigging big for our foils. With the two other lighter sailors rigging
7.5 I had to go with my 8.5 and then spent a couple of hours searching out
a gust. The lighter sailors were flying more as I was waiting for a decent
gust to pump up on, so a pretty frustrating start to the session not helped
by what wind there was keep switching around from SW to WSW. With the gusty
wind it was a bit of a problem beating out of the bend just below the
marina, in fact we were very rarely all flying at the same time with the up
and down wind! Then the sky became very black and the wind eased, I decided
to stay out hoping to get a bit of a squall, the wind did pick up with the
arrival of the rain which luckily did not last long and I got the best few
runs of the whole session with the wind turning SW I got all the way up to
near Pin Mill with a top broad run back in sunshine with the black sky
having moved over! We all then had some OK runs down to Pin Mill but the
wind soon turned gusty again with some strong gusts making it difficult for
us all with our big sails, time to call it a day! Lucky, we did as the sky
again went black and the rain came again with a short spell with winds to
over 40 mph! could not believe it, good job we were not out on the water
then! So, after 5 consecutive days sailing at 5 differant venues, covering
155 miles hopefully will get a few days off now, still can’t complain as
had some good sessions:)
